Mobile planning office OpTrek is welcomed as a guest at Spui, Den Haag

OpTrek has organized a special programme during the exhibition Stand van Zaken / State of Affairs in the former building of Stroom hcbk

 Date:16 January through 13 February 2006

During four weeks, from 16 January through 13 February 2006, OpTrek will be welcomed as a guest at Spui (opening times: Wednesday through Sunday from 12.00 to 17.00 hours). 26 artists were invited by Stroom, The Hague, visual arts through architecture, to take part in the exhibition 'Stand van Zaken' / State of Affairs, a selection from artists who received a grant in 2004. Due to the removal of Stroom to Hogewal, the old premises at Spui 193-195 became vacant. Now a large exhibition is to be seen here for which OpTrek especially furnished an entire room.

Food: 'In Den Vettuh Règâh'

By means of a series of interdisciplinary presentations OpTrek (Sabrina Lindemann and Annechien Meier) will compare various formal and individual points of view on dealing with urban transformations. By also elucidating this from the point of view of  art, music and film OpTrek will present a multicoloured kaleidoscope of views and performances presenting a variegated picture of life in and looking at the contemporary / future city.

Welcome by mobile planning office OpTrek

Arie van Wijngaarden (Amsterdam) of INURA (International Network of Urban Research and Action) will tell something about the relation between globalization and urban planning with examples of projects executed by people from the international network Inura. www.inura.at

Willem Sulsters, urban planner (Utrecht) on the transformation of city and society in the film.

Neeltje Dijkstra, resident of Transvaal is a participant in 'Nachtpreventie', and will tell something about this organization, which dedicates itself to making the streets in The Hague district Transvaal safer. A method meanwhile applied in a lot of other districts as well.

The 'Universal Embassy' from Brussels occupies itself with the urgent situation of people without any papers. They try to get these people out of their social isolation and give them a  self-made, universal passport. In 2001 the former Somalian embassy in Brussels was broken into by squatters without papers, after Somalia had lost its status due to the civil war in that country. The Universal Embassy brings people together, who are not officially acknowledged as citizens by various countries. The Embassy appoints its own diplomats and produces its own passports. Mohamed Benzaouia is the first person who was able to obtain a Belgian passport with the aid of the Embassy. He will tell his story. www.universal-embassy.be

Jeanne van Heeswijk, visual artist (Rotterdam) with the project 'Dwaallicht' in the district Nieuw Crooswijk in Rotterdam, which is being restructured. With this project Jeanne van Heeswijk is trying to find out what defines the character of the district. The tissue connecting the various elements in an urban area. A search for the cultural history of the district and mapping out its energy. www.dwaallicht.nl

'In Den Vettuh Règâh' in Transvaal, a social pub serving meals, will tell something about its function in the district and prepare the food.

'Stichting OWAZE' (Rotterdam); presents the Earthship, a new way of building and living. An Earthship is a building made of remaining materials and waste materials. By means of smart and simple techniques it does not only provide the residents with accommodation, but also with clean water, electricity, food and a stable interior climate. The objects of Stichting OWAZE are initiating, supporting and stimulating projects based on Earthship concepts, as well as giving Earthships greater publicity and realizing them. Thus the Stichting wishes to make a useful contribution to both environment and employment. www.owaze.nl

Raviv Ganchrow, architect and sonologist (Amsterdam) designed a special building functioning exclusively as a sound recording medium of sounds arising in space. In his work he explores how these sounds can be mapped out and how it is possible to make them perceptible through the senses.
