Façade construction Wesselstraat: 'SkylightBayWindow'
by architects: 2012Architects (Rotterdam) en Refunc, (Denis Oudendijk en Jan Koerbes, Den Haag)
Period: June 29 till November 1, 2003
For OpTrek's second façade construction, the "2012 Architects" built a 'skylight with bay window', made of aluminium doors from Transvaal houses due for demolition. The construction ran from the roof to the front of the building. The office's ceiling was broken open for that purpose. At night the bay window radiated light over the boarded up, pitch-dark Wesselstraat, a sign of life in an abandoned area.
For this project 2012 Architects researched the most important local waste streams; the SkylightBayWindow was built according to the "Recyclicity principle" they had initiated. The SkylightBayWindow was successively used again in the exhibition Stand van Zaken (State of Affairs), Den Haag 2003, Kunstvlaai, Amsterdam 2004 and in the NAi, Rotterdam 2004.
The SkylightBayWindow was realized by:
Jan Jongert. Design/construction, Jan Körbes, construction, Denis Oudendijk, design/construction, Césare Peeren, assistance, Roeland Vergouwen, apprentice
